A reef pointbreak left on Nicaragua's Pacific coast, Miramar anchors a cluster of waves south of the Puerto Sandino power plant, each with its own character and tide window. The main point needs SW to S swell, ideally SW, with longer-period pulses to organize the three takeoff zones along the reef. Offshore E to NE winds keep it clean. The outside runs best at low tide on bigger swells, throwing up a long, workable left or a short steep right depending on where you drop in. The inside section, fast and reefy, works waist to head-high and gets shallow over rock. Within walking distance you have Pipes, a wedging right-left combo over reef and sand, the Breakwater, a newer reflection peak producing fun lefts and rights. Shacks, a hollow technical left for advanced surfers at mid-to-high tide, and Shifty's, a playful beachbreak peak on the same tide window. Bottom: rock reef and sand. Season: all summer. Consistency: reliable across the range of spots. Bring reef booties if your feet are soft and watch the shallow sections on lower tides.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowd pressure at Miramar is generally mellow. The lineup is mainly traveling surfers, and the local vibe is welcoming. Weekends draw more people from Managua. With five distinct breaks in the area spread across different tides and sizes, there is usually room to spread out. Dawn sessions are quieter.

Access & Facilities

Paved road from Managua runs directly to the coast. Park at the abandoned restaurant near the point. The cluster of breaks is within walking distance of each other, which makes it easy to pick the best option on the day. Water is clean. No major facilities on site, so bring water and food from town.

Nearby Alternatives

Puerto Sandino, just to the north, is the most powerful wave in the immediate area and a step up in difficulty. When Miramar is maxed out or flat, the beachbreaks around Pipes, the Breakwater, and Shifty's often pick up different swell angles and tide windows to keep sessions going.
