A fast, punchy right-hand reef break past a half-submerged shipwreck, The Boiler sits on the far west end of Cap Ghair headland near Taghazout, Morocco. It picks up more swell than the famous Anchor Point a short drive away, making it a smart call when the North Atlantic swell is running small. NW, WNW, and W swells are the window, with NE winds keeping faces clean through the autumn-into-winter season. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot: lower water gives the wave more zip and definition, while higher tide softens the punch considerably. The wave runs quickly along urchin-covered rock, demanding solid rail game and commitment from intermediate to advanced surfers. Bottom: reef/point. Season: October through March. Consistency: solid through winter, fades significantly in spring and summer. Bring a shortboard with enough volume to handle a paddle-intensive session, because working back up the point when it has size will test your shoulders.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is notably less crowded than Anchor Point, but the surfers out here tend to be experienced and focused. When it's firing, the local vibe turns serious and assertive. Respect priority, take your turn, and don't paddle out on a day above your ability level. The crowd naturally spreads across the region's multiple waves when the swell is solid, giving The Boiler room to breathe.

Access & Facilities

The wave is visible from the coastal highway as you drive the headland, but locating the access point takes some searching. Getting in and out over the rocks is the main hazard: urchin spines are a real threat, so booties are worth considering even in relatively warm water. There are no facilities at the break itself. Camping on the cliff above puts you in position for dawn patrol with nothing but stars overhead at night.

Nearby Alternatives

Anchor Point, one of Morocco's most celebrated right-hand points, is within a short drive and handles larger, more powerful swell. If The Boiler is too small or blown out, the Taghazout area offers several other reef and point options within an hour's drive, making this region one of the most wave-rich stretches of the North African coast.
