Mysteries sits on the northern back beach of Anchor Point, offering one of the few waves in the Taghazout cluster that stays rideable on higher tides. A rock-shelf reef exposed at low water, it produces a snappy right with a quick vertical drop off the peak, a fast mid-section, then a slower sandy inside. There is also a short left off the peak that can offer a genuine change from the area's dominant righthanders, though it goes fat quickly and pushes into rocks, so higher tides only. NW swell at head-high to a couple feet overhead is the sweet spot. WNW swell tends to close it out, shortening shoulders toward the Anchors end. NE wind keeps it clean. Mid to high tide is optimal. Bottom: reef and sand mix. Season: October through March. Consistency: high. Intermediates who find Killers and Anchors maxed out will find this a more approachable option, though expect a full lineup and local rippers camped deep on the peak taking the pick of every set.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Pretty much always crowded. The take-off slab is cramped, and experienced locals hold priority deep on the peak. Shoulder-hopping will earn you friction. Respect the pecking order, sit wide and work your way into the rotation, or surf it early morning before the campervan crews wake up. Vibe is manageable but present.

Access & Facilities

Park in the Anchor Point car park, which has a small fee. A dirt area on the cliff above regularly fills with campervans in peak winter season. Trails lead down the cliff to the beach. Time your entry off the rocks carefully, then paddle around the shoulder into the lineup. No facilities at the break itself. Stormwater runoff affects water quality after rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Mysteries closes out in heavy WNW swell, Anchors to the south is the obvious move, offering longer walls and more structure. Killers to the north picks up more swell and handles bigger, longer-period NW groundswells when Mysteries goes flat or maxes out.
