A high-consistency beachbreak on Morocco's Atlantic coast, El Oualidia sits near a lagoon system that shapes two very different surf experiences depending on where you paddle out. The main beach catches SW to N swell and fires on SE offshores, working across all tides in the 1-6ft range. Inside the lagoon, the waves are mellow enough for beginners and surf school groms, outside on the open beach, size and wind can make conditions scrappy and punchy for anything less than an intermediate surfer. The crowd is manageable but does build on weekends and during Moroccan school holidays. Bottom: beach. Season: consistent through autumn and winter. Consistency: high. Bring a fish or a mid-length if the swell is under 3ft, and a shortboard for anything pushing 4ft and above, when the beach peaks start to show some real punch.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup pressure here is generally low to moderate. The presence of a long-running surf camp means beginners and intermediates share the water regularly. On busy weekends the peak count climbs. Standard respect protocols apply: give space to learners in the shallower inside sections and read the rotation before paddling into the main takeoff zone.

Access & Facilities

Parking and facilities are minimal on-site, so arrive self-sufficient with water and snacks. The lagoon-facing side of town is more built-up with cafes and basic supplies. The coastal road between Oualidia and Safi passes several reef setups worth a look if the beach is blown out.

Nearby Alternatives

When El Oualidia's open beach turns messy, the reefs scattered along the cliff road toward Safi are worth investigating, particularly for experienced surfers chasing cleaner faces. Sidi Abed's tombolo setup to the north offers a rocky northern side and a sandy southern lagoon option as a change of pace.
