A consistent left-hander peeling over a submerged reef on Morocco's remote southern Atlantic coast, Tan-Tan Plage sits in a stretch of coastline bordered by Hamada Stone desert to the north and high cliff faces to the south. It catches swell from SW through N, works best at 2-6ft, and stays clean with a SE offshore wind. The wave runs 50-100m and handles all tides, making it accessible without needing to read tidal windows precisely. This is solo surfing territory: the surrounding 50km of beach is essentially empty, and facilities are zero. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium. The road in is 2WD accessible, which is notable for this part of Morocco, but bring everything you need including water, food, and fuel, because there is nothing out here once you leave the last town.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Virtually no crowd pressure. The surrounding coast is one of the least surfed stretches in Morocco, and Tan-Tan Plage sits in that buffer zone between the Agadir cluster to the north and the genuinely remote spots further south. Solo sessions are the norm. Enjoy it quietly and leave it as you found it.

Access & Facilities

Reachable via 2WD road, which is the main practical advantage over many spots in this region. No parking infrastructure, no facilities whatsoever. Stock up thoroughly before the drive out. Nearest services are back in Tan-Tan town. No pollution concerns and no flagged water hazards, but remote desert coastline means self-sufficiency is non-negotiable.

Nearby Alternatives

The broader Tan-Tan to Sidi Ifni stretch holds multiple reef and beach setups for surfers willing to explore. When Tan-Tan Plage is too small, look north toward the Agadir and Taghazout cluster for more consistent and larger options with full infrastructure.
