Rabat's rivermouth beachbreak delivers a reliable left-hander that punches above its weight for a North African city wave. The left by the rivermouth is the standout option, best on N, NW, or W swells from knee- to head-high, with SE winds keeping faces clean. Low tide sharpens the sandbar and produces the most defined sections. Intermediate surfers will find the most reward here, though smaller days are workable for surfers still building their repertoire. The lineup draws a moderate crowd and an established local scene, so read the pecking order and paddle out with respect. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter. Consistency: reliable in season. River runoff means water quality is fair at best, so cover any open cuts and skip the session after heavy rain.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a moderate crowd year-round, heavier on weekends and during summer. An established local scene means the hierarchy is real. Arrive early, surf with patience, and don't snake sets. The lineup is manageable if you show basic respect from the start.

Access & Facilities

Base yourself at the Oudayas Surf Club near the rivermouth and choose your peak from there. Rabat is a capital city, so food, water, and transport are all straightforward. Water quality is fair, with river runoff the main concern after rain. Watch rips near the rivermouth.

Nearby Alternatives

If Rabat's beachbreak is blown out or too small, Moulay Bousselham to the north offers shifty beachbreak peaks with a notably quieter winter lineup. Further afield, the pointbreak setups of Morocco's Atlantic coast provide the long walls this region is known for.
