A long, mellow right-hand point wrapping around a sheltered bay, Imsouane delivers arguably the longest wave in Morocco and has become the country's go-to surf school destination. NW, N, W, and SW swells all find their way into the bay, with NE winds keeping it clean. Low to mid tide produces the best shape, and the wave handles everything from knee-high to overhead. Beginners and surf school groups dominate the lineup, but experienced surfers on logs or fish can still find genuine fun here, especially on cleaner mornings before the crowds arrive. Bottom: point with sand and rocks. Season: autumn and winter. Consistency: reliable when North Atlantic swells are running. The Cathedral side around the corner offers left and right reefs and beachbreak alternatives when the main point is wall-to-wall learners, so bring a board that suits both mellower point walls and punchier reef sections.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the most crowded waves in Morocco. Surf schools run sessions throughout the day, and visiting surfers pile in during peak autumn and winter months. The local scene is established but relatively relaxed given the beginner nature of the wave. Respect the school groups, give them space, and the vibe stays manageable. Dawn patrol significantly reduces congestion.

Access & Facilities

Follow the road along the cliff from the small fishing village down to the bay. Access is straightforward and well-worn. The town has accommodation, cafes, and board rentals catering to the surf crowd. Water quality is clean. Watch for rocks at the entry and exit points, and be aware that heavy crowds create collision risk in the shallower sections.

Nearby Alternatives

The Cathedral side around the corner from the main bay offers left and right reefs and beachbreak peaks that see fewer surf schoolers. When the main point is overwhelmed, these options give you more room to breathe and a different wave character entirely.
