A long sandy bay flanked by a point and an offshore reef, Tafedna sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast roughly halfway between Essaouira and Agadir, far removed from the circus at Taghazout. It picks up SW and NW Atlantic swells on the beach breaks, point break, and a shallow reef about 1 km offshore, all working best with NE to SE offshores that dominate October through April. Size sweet spot is 1 to 2.5 m, at which point the beach peaks stay open and the point offers a cleaner wall. Intermediate surfers get the most out of the variety here, and the lineup is genuinely empty by Moroccan standards. Bottom: mixed sand and reef. Season: October to April. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bring a mid-length or a fish for smaller days and a 5/4 for deepest winter sessions when the water drops toward 16°C.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the genuinely quiet stretches of the Moroccan Atlantic. Taghazout's crowds stay south, and Tafedna has not developed rental infrastructure to funnel beginners in volume. Treat the local community and fishing village with respect, keep sessions low-key, and the empty lineups stay empty.

Access & Facilities

The village is accessible by road from Essaouira or Agadir but expect a slow drive on rural tarmac. Facilities are minimal: a small fishing community, no surf school or rental shop on site. Bring enough water and food. Check the offshore reef on a calm-water day before paddling out, shallow sections can catch you off guard.

Nearby Alternatives

If Tafedna is blown out or flat, Essaouira's town beach to the north handles wind swell and stays surfable in marginal conditions. Heading south, Taghazout and Anchor Point offer more consistent and better-mapped options when the swell is pumping.
