Shifty beachbreak peaks fed by a rivermouth lagoon outflow, Moulay Bousselham sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast between Larache and Kenitra, roughly 20km off the main motorway. N, NW, and W swells fill in the banks best from autumn through winter, with E winds going offshore to clean things up. Mid to high tide is the sweet spot, low tide tends to produce shorey close-outs on most banks. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find punchy, occasionally hollow peaks that reward aggressive surfing, and while summer brings beach crowds, the lineup stays manageable year-round with far less pressure than the point breaks to the south. Bottom: sand, with estuary influence. Season: September to March. Consistency: medium, starts firing from 3ft and handles solid 8ft sets. Watch for rips, especially after bigger swells when the banks shift and channels move unpredictably.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Moulay Bousselham draws modest numbers outside peak summer. Locals are welcoming and the vibe is genuinely mellow by Moroccan surf-town standards. Summer weekends can push more surfers into the water, but the shifting peaks spread people out. Winter is when you get it nearly to yourself, which lines up perfectly with the best swell window.

Access & Facilities

Exit the motorway after Larache and follow signs to Moulay Bousselham village. Parking is available near the break. The village has a campsite, guesthouses, and cheap fresh fish. Water quality is fair given the lagoon outflow nearby, so post-surf hygiene is worth minding. No serious hazards beyond standard rip awareness.

Nearby Alternatives

If Moulay Bousselham is blown out or flat, Asilah to the north has a longer beachbreak that picks up similar swell. Further south, the pointbreaks around Mehdia and Rabat come online in larger W swells and offer more structured walls when the banks here are closing out.
