Left · ReefIntermediate → Advanced2–10 ftJan – Dec

A fast, hollow left-hand reef that breaks over shallow volcanic rock on Morocco's north coast, La Izquierda delivers steep, intense rides when the Atlantic pushes NW to W swell into the bay. Offshore SE winds clean it up, it fires at 2-10ft and handles a surprising range of swell directions, including E windswell. Intermediate to advanced surfers only, and expect a packed lineup whenever it's working. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: Oct-Mar. Consistency: high. Locals rip here, the standard is genuinely high, and with only one peak, the crowd pressure is relentless, so arrive early or mid-week to find any breathing room.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is real here. The standard of local surfing is high and the peak is singular, meaning every set draws a crowd. Dropping in will not be tolerated. Speak some Spanish, respect the pecking order, and surf within your ability. If you're not comfortable on hollow fast reef at overhead-plus, this is not the wave to test your limits in a hostile environment.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available nearby and basic camping facilities exist in the area. Entry and exit require navigating a large ledge of sharp volcanic rock, so study the lineup before paddling out and pull off the wave well before it shallows out. The paddle-out itself is straightforward once you find the channel.

Nearby Alternatives

When La Izquierda is overcrowded or too small, Billboards and other nearby north coast reefs offer similar swell exposure with more space in the water. When large NW swells max out the north coast, check the outer bay for alternatives that handle the size better.
