El Ouatia sits where Saharan dunes collapse into the Atlantic, a compact beach town 25 km south of Tan-Tan on Morocco's southern coastline. The setup delivers both a right-hander breaking over coral reef and a left peeling across a reef-sand bottom, giving the lineup genuine versatility when SW to N swell arrives with a SE breeze. Waist-high and above is the working range, and the wave shows real quality on its better days. The crowd picture is honest: this is remote southern Morocco, and lineups here rarely fill. Intermediates are the sweet spot, capable of reading a reef takeoff without getting punished, though experienced surfers hunting less-traveled Morocco will find value in what shows up on a proper swell. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: moderate. Bring a mid-length or versatile shortboard, and check the reef depth at low tide before committing to the inside sections.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

El Ouatia draws little passing surf traffic. The remoteness self-selects the lineup, and pressure is minimal compared to northern Morocco's better-known reefs. Respect the local community, travel with patience, and you will have space to surf.

Access & Facilities

The town is accessible by road from Tan-Tan, roughly 25 km north. Basic amenities exist in El Ouatia itself. The coastline runs about 3 km, so options shift with conditions. Water quality is generally clean at this latitude. Watch for exposed coral and urchins on the inside.

Nearby Alternatives

Tan-Tan Plage shares the broader zone and can offer protection when swells are large and the main reef is maxing out. The surf corridor running north toward Agadir has several beach and point setups worth investigating when southern swells are not cooperating.
