A punchy right-hand reef beside a crescent beach roughly 40km south of Rabat, Bouznika works best when the North Atlantic storm track lights up in autumn and winter. NW, WNW, and W swells are the bread and butter here, with SE or S winds keeping the face clean. Low tide is non-negotiable: the wave can nearly disappear at high, and it zips or rolls along the reef depending on size, with defined sections and room for cutback options. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find it fun and competitive on smaller days, heavy and fast when overhead-plus. Bottom: sharp reef with urchins. Season: October through February. Consistency: high. Signs off the coastal highway mark the turnoff, so finding it is straightforward, but beware the lineup filling up on weekends.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends attract moderate crowds and the vibe is competitive but manageable. Locals know the lineup well and respect flows when you paddle out with awareness. Dawn patrol on weekdays gives you the best chance of space. Give way, wait your turn, and the session should be fine.

Access & Facilities

Signed off the free highway, then bear right along the beach road to a dead end at a guard gate. Paddle the long way out from the beach, or pick your way across the super-sharp rocks to the tip. Watch for urchin beds on the bottom throughout. No facilities on site, so bring water. The adjacent golf resort is largely quiet in winter.

Nearby Alternatives

If Bouznika is too small or crowded, the beachbreak bays to the north and south absorb smaller swells and suit less experienced surfers. Rabat's Bou Regreg rivermouth area, about 30km north, offers multiple groyne-defined peaks across a range of sizes and conditions.
