A mellow, forgiving right-hand point in North Morocco's Taghazout zone, Banana Point runs from the main headland down to the rivermouth, peeling over sand and cobblestones with long, workable walls. It fires best on NW swell from 3-8ft, with ENE offshore winds keeping faces clean. All tides work, though size and swell angle determine how far the wave runs, occasionally stretching to 150-300m on good days. The headland provides useful shelter from northerly wind chop. Intermediate surfers and longboarders are most at home here, but confident beginners can find their feet on smaller days. Crowds are moderate to busy most of the week. Bottom: sand and cobblestones. Season: September to April. Consistency: reliable through winter. Strong currents develop when the swell climbs toward the top of the range, so read the water before paddling out on bigger days. Named after the banana plantations of nearby Aourir village, the spot sits a short drive from Taghazout.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup draws a mix of longboarders, intermediates, and traveling surfers, especially through the October-to-April peak season. Weekends and the core winter months get busy. Locals are generally welcoming and relaxed, so respectful surfing goes a long way. Dawn sessions reduce the crowd pressure noticeably.

Access & Facilities

Park on the headland and walk down to the beach. Banana Village (Aourir) is within walking distance and worth the stop after a session for a tajine. Tamraght village is also close. Water quality is fair and generally clean, but can turn murky after heavy rain. No major hazards beyond strong currents on larger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

Taghazout's Anchor Point, a short drive north, offers a longer, faster right-hand point for surfers who want more punch when Banana Point goes fat. Hash Point and Mysteries, also in the Taghazout cluster, provide options when the swell angle or wind shifts conditions here.
