A fickle but occasionally punchy beach break on the Nayarit coast, Veneros sits north of Punta Negra along a stretch of shoreline that requires a 15-20 minute beach walk to reach. It needs solid S or SW swell to wake up, starting to show shape around 6ft and capable of holding faces to 10ft-plus on bigger days. High tide is the only tide worth paddling out on. The wave is generally described as inconsistent and low-power, but when the swell aligns it throws up long walls with sections that suit longboarders and bodyboarders more than performance shortboards. Crowds can be serious on weekends, with a mix of traveling surfers and the occasional entitled visitor who claims local knowledge they clearly lack. Bottom: sand. Season: summer south swells, May through October. Consistency: low to moderate. Bring water and food from the OXXO in Punta Mita before you walk out, because there is nothing once you leave the road.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday crowds are manageable, but weekends pull a serious volume of surfers. The Community reports flag some visitors who posture aggressively in the lineup without much basis. Dropping in is not a strategy here. Dawn sessions on weekday mornings give you the best chance at uncrowded waves on the right swell.

Access & Facilities

From Puerto Vallarta, take the bus toward Punta Mita, get off near Punta Negra, and walk north up the beach for 15-20 minutes. Buses run frequently and cost next to nothing. Stock up at the OXXO in Punta Mita before the walk. No facilities at the break itself. Bring sun protection and enough water for a full session.

Nearby Alternatives

The break in front of the Litibu resort, sometimes called Stones, is a shorter walk from the road and can produce fun waves, though reports suggest it draws a more aggressive crowd. Punta Mita's main breaks are worth checking on the same swell window if Veneros isn't delivering.
