A mellow right-hand point in Bahia Matanchen near San Blas, Las Islitas delivers some of the longest rides on Mexico's Pacific coast, sitting in the shadow of the Guinness-recorded 5,700-foot wave logged at adjacent Stoner's Point. South swells from May through October funnel into the bay and peel across a mixed sand-and-rock bottom, producing long, slow-rolling walls that reward patience over power. Offshore winds from the NE keep faces clean during the summer months, while mid tide tends to smooth things out. The lineup is mellow and rarely crowded, making it one of the more forgiving point breaks in Nayarit for beginners and longboarders working on trim and footwork. Bottom: mixed (sand over rock). Season: May to October, peak September. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Watch the rip currents that pull along the point, stay clear of submerged rocks on the inside, and be aware that shark sightings have been reported in the bay.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The bay sees light crowds by Mexican standards. Weekends and peak September swell can bring local and visiting longboarders out, but the break rarely gets competitive. The local vibe is relaxed. Respect other riders on long walls and avoid burning people already trimming across the face.

Access & Facilities

San Blas is the closest town, roughly 20 minutes by road. Basic food and water are available in the village near the beach. There is limited shade and the heat is significant in summer, so bring sun protection and enough water. Rip currents run along the point and rocks are exposed at low tide, particularly on the inside section.

Nearby Alternatives

When Las Islitas is flat, Stoner's Point at the far end of the bay picks up more swell and delivers longer, more powerful rides for confident intermediates. The town beach at San Blas offers a softer option on smaller days for absolute beginners.
