A powerful right-hand point that fires when the rest of Nayarit is average, Stoners sits at the headland separating San Blas from Matancen Bay. It wants S to NW swell at 5-6ft minimum to even show up, and genuinely lights up at 8-10ft when the rest of the coast maxes out. NE winds go offshore here, and low to mid tide produces the best shape: fast, hollow sections with occasional barrel opportunities on the better sets. This is an expert-only wave when it's on. Paddling the rivermouth from Playa Borrego is the quickest route in, but be aware there are crocodiles in that river. Bottom: reef/point. Season: summer S swells and autumn NW groundswells. Consistency: medium. Commit to several days minimum because showing up for a quick check frequently means flat.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

On a working swell, expect an ultra-crowded lineup on weekends. The difficult access filters out some surfers on weekdays, but when word gets out that Stoners is firing, the crowd assembles fast. Respect the lineup, know your place in the pecking order, and understand this wave is coveted.

Access & Facilities

No facilities on site. Two access options: paddle the rivermouth from Playa Borrego (crocodiles present, serious) or drive rough road through Las Islitas toward the point (4x4 recommended). Parking is restricted. A surf camp near Playa Borrego rents boards and provides local knowledge. Pack water and food.

Nearby Alternatives

When Stoners is flat, Las Islitas offers a long, mellow right down the beach, though it suits less experienced surfers. The left points at Aticama respond well to S-SW pulses and are more consistent if you need a reliable backup option.
