A mellow but genuinely fun right-hand point on the Punta Mita peninsula, La Lancha benefits from a geographic quirk that makes it better in winter than summer: Cabo Corrientes blocks most S and SSW swell, while moderate to large NW groundswells wrap around the point and produce long, workable walls. The ideal window is waist to head-high NW swell with N to NE offshores, at a higher tide to buffer the shallow reef underneath. Beginners and intermediates dominate the lineup, but on the best swells the wave earns its reputation across all levels. Expect a mixed crowd of longboarders, funboarders, and shortboarders, busier when conditions align. Bottom: reef. Season: November through March. Consistency: reliable for a winter pointbreak in this region. Higher tides are worth waiting for since the rocks get uncomfortably shallow at low tide, and late drops on inside sections can punish the unprepared.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The Punta Mita area attracts resort visitors, villa guests, and travelling surfers, so the lineup fills quickly when conditions are good. Longboarders are a fixture here. Local vibe is manageable rather than aggressive, but respect in the water goes a long way. Dawn patrol or mid-week sessions reduce the shoulder-to-shoulder factor noticeably.

Access & Facilities

Ask locally for current access details or approach via the beach on foot. Punta Mita village has food and basics nearby. Water quality is clean. Watch for shallow rocks on the reef, particularly at lower tides, and take care with entries and exits.

Nearby Alternatives

The broader Punta Mita area has several other right-hand points worth checking on the same swell, most with a similar mellow character. When winter swells miss or the crowd at La Lancha is unworkable, exploring adjacent points along this stretch of Nayarit coastline is the logical move.
