A mellow beachbreak and rivermouth at the end of a panga ride, Quimixto sits on the south shore of Bahia de Banderas, accessible only by water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan. W to NW swells wrap into the bay and deliver manageable, forgiving waves in the 2-8ft range. SE winds come offshore here, cleaning up the faces on most mornings before the sea breeze fills in. All tides are workable, keeping sessions accessible throughout the day. This is a beginner-friendly setup with typically uncrowded lineups, though medium consistency means you are working with what the bay delivers, not a guaranteed pumping session. Bottom: beachbreak with rivermouth influence. Season: Oct-Mar for most swell activity. Consistency: medium. Arrive early on a clean W swell day for the best conditions before the afternoon onshore kicks in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The boat-access-only approach keeps crowds thin. You will mostly share the water with a handful of locals and whatever tourists made the panga trip from Boca de Tomatlan. No reported localism issues. Respect the village and pack out your rubbish.

Access & Facilities

No road access. Catch a panga water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan on the south shore of Puerto Vallarta. No facilities and no parking at the break itself. Bring water, sunscreen, and food. The village has some basic options, but do not count on resupply at the beach.

Nearby Alternatives

If Quimixto is flat or blown out, the breaks around Punta de Mita at the northern headland of the bay offer far more consistent surf with multiple reef and point options. El Faro delivers long workable rights on a W swell, and The Cove picks up NW energy well.
