A consistent left-hand pointbreak on the Nayarit coast, Aticama delivers quality walls when S to SW swells pulse up the coast between May and October. The wave works across all tides and handles a wide size range from 2 to 10ft, with the outside section breaking over rock before transitioning to sand further inside, giving the ride a dual character depending on where you pick it up. Intermediate surfers will feel at home here, and the crowds are rarely an issue, making it a genuine escape from the more trafficked breaks to the south. Bottom: rocky point transitioning to sand. Season: May through October on S-SW swells. Consistency: medium. Bring a fish or mid-length for the smaller days when the inside sand section is doing the work, and a step-up if a solid SW pulse is in the forecast.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Rarely crowded. Aticama sits off the main surf circuit and draws a patient crew willing to make the drive. The low-pressure lineup rewards respectful, relaxed surfing. No notable localism issues reported, but standard respect applies.

Access & Facilities

No facilities on site, so bring water, food, and sunscreen. Free parking is available. The village of Aticama is reachable by road from San Blas to the north. There are no surf rentals here, so arrive self-sufficient.

Nearby Alternatives

If Aticama is too small or the swell angle is off, Las Islitas to the north can pick up swell and offers a famously long ride when conditions cooperate. Santa Cruz further up the coast also produces quality left pointbreak action on pure S or SW pulses.
