Long right-hand point breaks wrapping around a palm-lined rocky headland on El Salvador's east coast, Las Flores is a designated World Surfing Reserve and one of Central America's most consistent waves. SE to SW swells feed it year-round, with S and SW the most productive. NW to N winds go offshore. Low tide is best, jacking the wave up over the takeoff rocks before it reels across a sandbar with speed and barrelling sections. Rides of 150-300m are common on bigger days, though increasing crowds mean priority is hard to earn. This suits intermediate to advanced surfers most, but beginners find room on small, high-tide days when shoulders mellow out. Bottom: rock to sand. Season: year-round, peak SH fall-winter. Consistency: high. Watch shallow rocks at low tide, and stay alert to panga boat traffic cutting through the lineup regularly.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are the honest catch here. On good swells during peak season, the lineup fills fast, with more travelling surfers than locals these days. Localism is described as doable rather than heavy, but respect the rotation, avoid snaking, and yield to surfers deeper on the point. Dawn sessions and off-peak travel months reward patience.

Access & Facilities

A short drive up a dirt road from El Cuco village, which has surf camps and basic services. Free parking on site. Camping is available. Water quality is fair and rain-dependent. The main hazard is shallow volcanic rock at low tide on the takeoff section, so booties are worth considering if your feet aren't hardened. Panga boats transit the channel regularly.

Nearby Alternatives

When Las Flores is maxed out or too crowded, La Vaca in the next bay acts as a natural pressure valve with a more manageable crowd. La Ventana is a fun, consistent beachbreak suitable for all levels when the point is too heavy. Punta Mango, further along the coast, is the region's standout right pointbreak for experienced surfers chasing a step up in performance.
