At smaller sizes the wave is open and rippable across all ability levels, push the swell past head-high and sections start to hollow out, making it a legitimate challenge for intermediate and advanced surfers. Weekday crowds are moderate by Salvadoran standards and the local vibe is generally welcoming, though expect more bodies on weekends given El Zonte's reputation on the regional circuit. Bottom: sand over rock. Season: March through October. Consistency: reliable through the SW swell season. River runoff after heavy rain degrades water quality, so time sessions accordingly and mind the rocks near the point on bigger tides.
