A low-key point break roughly 20 minutes west of La Libertad, El Palmarcito punches above its reputation on a solid SW or S swell. Needs 3-5ft to wake up but can hold to 8ft and beyond, getting hollow and fast when the banks align. Works across all tides, with offshore winds from the NE keeping faces clean in the early morning. The crowd is thin most days, genuinely empty on weekdays, a handful of surfers on weekends, which makes it accessible for intermediate surfers who want a relaxed session without the shoulder-to-shoulder lineup pressure of Punta Roca or Zonte. Bottom: rock/point. Season: Mar-Oct for SW ground swell. Consistency: moderate, fickle on small weeks. Reviews are split, ranging from hollow and firing to flat and disappointing, so check the swell forecast before committing the drive from La Libertad.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

No localism reported. The lineup sits largely under the radar compared to La Libertad's main draws, so weekend crowds stay light. Mid-week you'll often be trading waves with two or three other surfers. That said, the spot's low consistency means you can show up to flat water, especially in the Nov-Feb period when S swell fades.

Access & Facilities

Head west from La Libertad on the coastal road for roughly 20 minutes. There is a restaurant at the end of the access road where you can park and eat after your session. Bring your own water. The break is close to shore, so reef hazards are a factor at low tide, footwear for the walk-in is worth packing.

Nearby Alternatives

If El Palmarcito is flat or closing out, Punta Roca and Sunzal (El Zonte) are both within range and offer more consistent, longer rides on the same swell window. When size is pumping, the La Libertad area has multiple peaks along the coast worth checking before committing.
