A sheltered right-hand pointbreak at the south end of Playa Grande, Yacht holds up when the rest of Mar del Plata's lineup is a mess of onshore chop. The wave works across a broad swell window from NE through S, with NW offshore winds cleaning it up and lower tides drawing out the length and shape. At 2-8ft it suits experienced surfers who can read a long, walling right and position early in a competitive local crew. Bottom: sand over point. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium. The protection from southerly winter winds is the spot's defining advantage, so when a solid S swell hits and everywhere else is blown out, Yacht becomes the logical call for anyone in Mar del Plata. Come at dawn to beat the regulars, who know exactly what they have here and will be out in numbers once word spreads that it's firing. Pollution is residential grade, typical for this stretch of coast.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Locals are well aware of this wave's sheltered advantage. When it works while other spots are blown out, the crew concentrates fast. Expect a competitive lineup of experienced surfers. Respect the rotation, don't snake, and understand you're a guest in a functioning local pecking order.

Access & Facilities

Located at the south end of Playa Grande within Mar del Plata proper. Car parking is available nearby and there is lifeguard coverage during staffed hours. The urban setting means food and water are close at hand. Pollution is residential-level, standard for a city beach in this region.

Nearby Alternatives

When Yacht is too crowded or the swell isn't finding the right angle, the sandbank at the port entrance offers a right-hand option. Cabo Corrientes, though affected by a mid-point jetty, still produces rideable waves on its day and is worth checking on the same run.
