A pointbreak right that once ranked among the longest and best waves on the entire Atlantic coast of South America, El Cabo Corrientes in Mar del Plata now breaks in two interrupted sections after a harbor jetty was driven through the middle of the wave. SE swells of 6ft or bigger, combined with NE wind and low tide, push long right-handers along the outside of the pier and through the harbor entry, offering extended walls ideal for working cutbacks and drawn-out carves. The construction gutted the wave's consistency, so when the stars align, a moderate-to-heavy crowd arrives fast. Bottom: sand. Season: March to April. Consistency: low. Forecasts rate intermediate to advanced, though on smaller days even beginners find workable sections. Bring a step-up for the overhead-plus days, and never turn your back on the ocean near the rocks at the point.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

When Cabo Corrientes actually turns on, the lineup fills quickly. The vibe is generally welcoming, but expect focused competition on good days. Crowds are described as always present on working swells. Watch your gear near the rocks. If you want a quieter session, dawn patrol on a mid-week swell is your best window.

Access & Facilities

Park directly in front of the wave at the beach car park. A surf shop is nearby. The surrounding bay has some water quality concerns from residential runoff, so check local conditions after heavy rain. The point itself is straightforward to reach from the beach.

Nearby Alternatives

If the point is not cooperating, Playa Grande north of the port offers consistent beach peaks across multiple skill levels. La Popular is a fallback option within the bay when Cabo Corrientes is too small or the crowd is overwhelming.
