Miramar's concrete pier at El Muelle redirects larger S swells into right-handers that would otherwise close out along this stretch of the Central Argentine coast. Optimal conditions are a solid S to SE swell from 3 to 8ft, NW offshore winds, and the wave holds through most tides. Longer walls peel off the pier end on bigger days, while faster, more powerful sections break into the rocky beach on the inside. This is an advanced wave, best suited to surfers comfortable with heavy, unpredictable sections over mixed bottom. Crowds build on weekends but midweek sessions can be more manageable. Bottom: mixed reef and rock. Season: March through September. Consistency: medium. Pack a thruster or step-up depending on swell size, and scout the lineup from the pier before paddling out to map the submerged hazards along the inside section.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends draw a crowd, especially in the cooler months when swell is most consistent. The lineup is mostly experienced local surfers who know the rocks well. Give priority on set waves, take your time reading the takeoff, and you'll be fine. Don't show up on a big swell day expecting an easy welcome.

Access & Facilities

Miramar has free parking near the pier and a surf shop in town for equipment and wax. The town sits between Mar del Plata and the quieter southern stretches of coast. Water quality is noted as residential-level pollution, so check conditions after heavy rainfall. The rocky bottom and submerged ramp on the inside are the primary hazards.

Nearby Alternatives

El Pomol, just south of the pier, offers more exposed peaks when the main break is inconsistent. Further north, Mar del Plata's Playa Grande delivers more consistent beachbreak across several peaks and is better suited to surfers looking for a less technical session.
