Pinamar delivers punchy, hollow beach-break peaks along a wide open stretch of Atlantic coast, roughly 400km south of Buenos Aires via routes 2, 36, and 74. SW and SE groundswells push consistent sand-bottom peaks that start firing from under 1m and can hold overhead-plus surf when the Atlantic sends proper sets of 2m to 2.5m. Offshore winds from the W and NW are the go, but onshore sea breezes and bad wind days are common through summer, so early mornings are your best window. Strong rip currents kick in when size builds past 2m, demanding solid water reading. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through winter for cleaner conditions. Consistency: moderate. Weekends in summer pull a few local surfers but the crowds are modest year-round, and winters are genuinely quiet. Bring a 3/2 or 4/3 for the cooler months and check the wind before you leave the pine-lined streets.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Pinamar is a resort town with a seasonal tourist crowd, but the surf zone itself stays relatively uncrowded. Weekdays in winter you may have the beach to yourself. The vibe in the water is relaxed with no notable localism pressure.

Access & Facilities

Drive Route 2 from Buenos Aires (around 4 hours) or Route 11 south from Mar del Plata (about 90 minutes). The town has restaurants, accommodation, and surf shops. The beach is wide and easy to access with street parking nearby. No major paddle-out hazards on smaller days, but respect the rips when size builds.

Nearby Alternatives

Mar del Plata to the north offers more consistent infrastructure and multiple beach-break options along a longer stretch of coast. Cariló and Villa Gesell nearby pick up similar swell and can offer slightly different sandbar setups worth checking when Pinamar is blown out.
