A beach break 48 km south of Mar del Plata on Argentina's Atlantic coast, Miramar picks up swell across a wide size range and offers accessible peaks for most skill levels. S to SE swells are the primary driver, and offshore winds from the NW clean things up. Mid to high tide is the sweet spot, when the banks shape up and the short rides extend toward the 50-150 m range on better days. Weekdays you'll find a relaxed lineup with few surfers, weekends draw crowds from Mar del Plata and nearby towns, so manage your expectations accordingly. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter (March to August) deliver the most consistent swell. Consistency: moderate. Watch your gear on the beach, petty theft is a real risk, so either travel with a crew or lock valuables in your car before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays the lineup is quiet and welcoming. Weekends see a noticeable crowd spike, with surfers driving down from Mar del Plata. Localism exists but is manageable: respect right-of-way, don't snake sets, and you'll be fine. Dawn patrol on weekends is the obvious move to score waves without the pressure.

Access & Facilities

Drive Route 11 south from Mar del Plata for 48 km. The town of Miramar has restaurants, shops, and basic surf rental options, making it viable for beginners arriving without equipment. February is peak tourist season so board rentals are available, and a 3/2 wetsuit is sufficient for summer sessions, though winter requires a 4/3 or heavier given the cold South Atlantic water.

Nearby Alternatives

When Miramar's banks are blown out or too crowded, Mar del Plata's breaks to the north offer more variety and infrastructure. The broader Pampas coastline around this stretch has additional beach-break options that respond to the same swell windows.
