Quequen delivers punchy beach break peaks along the edge of the Quequén river mouth, about 131km south of Mar del Plata on Ruta 88. It needs a solid swell to wake up, starting around 3-5ft and handling well overhead when the banks align. SW to SE groundswell is the engine here, with offshore winds from the NW keeping faces clean. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot: at high tide the waves tend to close out and lose shape. The crowds are thin even on weekends, making it an honest option when Mar del Plata is packed. Bottom: sand. Season: February-March peak, with autumn swells worth checking. Consistency: moderate. Arrive at dawn on a building swell to catch the banks before the wind turns onshore.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays you may have the lineup to yourself. Weekends draw a handful of locals. The vibe is relaxed and localism pressure is minimal, but the wreck hazard at Propeller concentrates surfers in a tight zone, so give space and read the water before paddling out.

Access & Facilities

Drive Ruta 88 from Mar del Plata, 131km. The spot sits at the river mouth edge. Basic services are in the town of Quequén. Bring your own water and wax. The river mouth can produce current, particularly on an outgoing tide, so factor that into your paddle-out.

Nearby Alternatives

Necochea's town beach peaks fire on similar swell and wind windows when Quequén's banks are not cooperating. The wider Necochea-Quequén stretch means you can drive the coast and spot-check multiple peaks on the same swell.
