A summertime beachbreak on Gran Canaria's coast, Vagabundo earns its keep when the bigger swells that power the island's better-known spots have gone quiet. It's a wide swell window, accepting anything from W through to E wind swells, which makes it a reliable option during the flatter months when alternatives dry up. Offshore winds from the south keep the surface clean. Best at low to mid tide when the banks are most defined, though the waves rarely push past 2-4ft and the walls tend to be sloppy rather than fast or hollow. Expect short rides in the 50-100m range and sections that crumble before they section properly. Beginners will find it manageable, but be aware of currents that run stronger than the relaxed wave character suggests. Bottom: sand over rock. Season: summer. Consistency: medium. Bring a longboard or a soft-top on smaller days and pick your entry point carefully given the current.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds show up sometimes, particularly in summer when this is one of few working spots on the island. The lineup is generally relaxed and beginner-friendly. No heavy localism reported. Early mornings still give you the best chance of uncrowded peaks.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available nearby. There are no facilities on site, so bring water and anything else you need. The black sand beach sits in a volcanic landscape. No significant pollution or hazards are flagged, though currents are worth respecting even in small surf.

Nearby Alternatives

When Vagabundo is too small or the banks are poor, the Las Palmas area to the north holds a cluster of more performance-oriented beachbreaks and reef setups that need more swell to fire. If E swell is in the water, scout the Telde coastline for options that respond better to that direction.
