A rolling A-frame breaking over boulders and sand on the edge of Playa de Arenal, Punta del Hidalgo delivers long, rippable rights winding toward the beach and lefts that peel cleanly into a channel. N, NW, and W swells in the waist-to-overhead range find the best sessions, with SE, E, and NE winds keeping faces clean. Works across all tides, which adds to its consistency through the October-to-March peak window. Not quite beginner territory due to rocks on the inside and a powerful shore break, but intermediate to advanced surfers will find it accessible and rewarding. A separate right called El Roquete breaks on the northern side when conditions align. Bottom: sand and boulders. Season: October-March. Consistency: reliable through northern hemisphere winter. Big channels make the paddle-out manageable, but note that sets can break a long way out, so be ready for a shoulder-burning paddle on bigger days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a moderate crowd pulling from local regulars, tourists, and surfers making the trip up from nearby Santa Cruz. The vibe is competitive but generally chilled. Respect the local crew, call your waves clearly, and the lineup stays manageable. Dawn patrol or mid-week sessions reduce pressure noticeably.

Access & Facilities

Parking near the cliffs is limited and awkward. Walk in from the village along the beach rather than scrambling for a cliff-side spot. The break sits on the edge of Playa de Arenal, so basic facilities are close. Water quality is clean. Watch the rocks on the inside during your exit.

Nearby Alternatives

Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the north coast stretches offer additional reef and beach options when Punta del Hidalgo is blown out or too crowded. The northern Tenerife coastline catches similar N and NW swell, so check spots in both directions before committing to one session.
