A swell-magnet beachbreak on Tenerife's north coast, Socorro faces NW and hoovers up N, NW, and W swells year-round, delivering powerful rights and lefts over a dark rocky-sandy bottom. Best conditions come from W to NW swell at 3-8ft with S or SE winds holding the face clean, the high cliffs behind the beach provide useful shelter from E tradewinds. Mid tide tends to organize the peaks most, though it functions at all stages. Beginners can find their feet here in the small summer peaks, but once size climbs above head-high the wave turns hollow, heavy, and unforgiving with strong rip currents and a rocky entry and exit demanding respect. Bottom: rocky sandy beach. Season: year-round, peaking December through February. Consistency: high. Arrive early before the car park fills and pick your peak carefully when it's pumping, two or three sections typically run simultaneously and the wrong one closes out fast.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Locals are generally approachable, but the lineup gets competitive when it's firing, especially on weekends and during December to February swells. Only a couple of quality peaks run at once, which concentrates the crowd. Arrive at dawn to secure your space without friction. Respect priority and you'll be fine.

Access & Facilities

Beachfront parking is free but fills quickly on good days. A small food shop near the car park covers basics. A lifeguard service operates seasonally. Rocky sections at the waterline require care on entry and exit when size is up. No significant pollution concerns.

Nearby Alternatives

The north coast of Tenerife has several reef and beachbreak options that absorb similar NW swell windows, so if Socorro is maxing out or too crowded it's worth driving a short distance along the coast to find a less exposed peak. Bajamir is a popular local alternative worth checking.
