A left-hand point offering the longest rides on Lanzarote, Jameos del Agua wraps N swell around a headland on the northeast coast to produce walling, sectioney lefts that can run 200-500m on the best days. Optimal conditions call for NW to NE swell in the 2-10ft range, westerly offshore wind, and higher tides to smooth out the shallower sections. The wave lacks raw power compared to other Lanzarote reefs but compensates with length, making it the go-to option when strong N winds shut down the rest of the island. That same shelter effect means the lineup draws a crowd, regularly filling with intermediates and experienced surfers alike. Bottom: reef/point. Season: Oct-Mar for peak N swell activity. Consistency: high. Worth timing a session for higher tide to find the wave's best linking sections and reduce the chance of catching exposed sections mid-ride.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Because it stays surfable in the strong N winds that blow out much of the island, Jameos del Agua attracts concentrated numbers when everywhere else is maxed or blown out. The wave's length spreads the crowd along the point, but expect a busy lineup on solid swell days. Note that nearby reefs carry heavy local pressure and are best left to those who already know them.

Access & Facilities

A car park sits directly at the spot and restrooms are available on site, making logistics straightforward. No significant pollution hazards are noted. The northern tip of the island is exposed, so check conditions before paddling out and be aware that swell size can be deceptive from the shore.

Nearby Alternatives

When Jameos is too crowded or the swell is too small to connect sections, Famara beach to the west offers 6km of beachbreak peaks handling W to N swell across a wide wind range. If size builds significantly, other north-coast reefs on Lanzarote pick up the same NW-NE window with more punch, though local awareness is required.
