Gran Canaria's longest left peels off a submerged slab reef directly in front of the old harbour at Arinaga, producing genuine barrels when conditions align. It needs a focused NE to E swell window, offshore NE winds, and a precise mid-tide window to fire properly. Low annual consistency means good days happen only a handful of times per year, but quality on those sessions justifies the wait for intermediate to advanced surfers. The harbour location introduces commercial pollution as a factor worth noting before paddling out. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: autumn through winter for optimal NE-E swell pulses. Consistency: low. Arrive early on the rare days it switches on as word spreads fast across the island and the lineup fills quickly with locals who know this wave well.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The wave is well known across Gran Canaria. On the infrequent days it fires, expect a competitive crowd of locals who surf it regularly. Intermediate visitors should read the lineup before paddling out and sit respectfully on the shoulder until the rhythm of the peak is clear. Showing patience pays.

Access & Facilities

A carpark serves the harbour area at Arinaga. No surf facilities on site. Commercial port activity means water quality can be compromised. Check conditions ahead of the drive as the consistency is low and the tide window is short.

Nearby Alternatives

When La Izquierda is not breaking, the broader Arinaga area and Telde coast offer beachbreak peaks worth checking on the same swell. Salinetas to the north also works on E swell and provides a different angle on similar conditions.
