Telde's most recognisable beachbreak sits on the east coast of Gran Canaria, pulling in NE to E swells that the island's west coast never sees. The main beach produces cruisey peaks across a wide stretch of sand, while the southern end hosts Bunker Point, a wedgy, powerful right barrel that switches on around mid to high tide and handles up to 6ft before the sections close out. NE to E swell direction is key, westerly winds go offshore here, cleaning up the faces. The spot runs regular surf contests, which tells you something about consistency, though the banks vary and true performance shape is not guaranteed every session. Bottom: sand over reef mix. Season: year-round, best Oct–Mar. Consistency: medium. Arrive early on weekends or expect a busy lineup, and be aware that strong marine currents can catch out surfers moving between the peaks.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is Gran Canaria's contest beach for a reason: everyone knows it. Weekends bring consistent crowds across all peaks. Community reports the spot suits all levels in smaller surf, but stronger currents on bigger days push it toward experienced surfers only. Dawn patrol mid-week is the most practical approach to finding space in the lineup.

Access & Facilities

Roadside parking is available. A lifeguard is on duty during beach hours. No significant pollution or hazard concerns are flagged, though currents between peaks warrant attention. The town of Telde is a few minutes away for food and water.

Nearby Alternatives

Salinetas breaks a quality right around mid tide on bigger E swells a short distance up the coast. Arinaga, a few kilometres south, has a well-known right in front of the old harbour that fires on low-frequency swells with high quality. Either is worth checking if Playa del Hombre is maxed out or too busy.
