A short, savage barrel that detonates over a submerged reef on Gran Canaria's southwest coast, Tauro is strictly a high-tide bodyboarding wave with very little margin for error. It needs a SE to W swell in the 3-8ft range to switch on, with NE offshores cleaning up the face. The ride itself is essentially one heavy barrel section before the reef goes dry, so the priority is getting tubed and getting out clean. Expert-only, always crowded when it does fire, and tension in the lineup is real. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: low consistency year-round, best on winter NW/W swells. Consistency: low. Helmets are strongly advised given the ultra-shallow reef at the end of the ride. This wave faces a genuine threat from large-scale urban development in the surrounding area.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a full lineup whenever this spot turns on. Consistent crowd pressure and real tension in the water are the norm here, not the exception. If you're not a competent bodyboarder who can handle heavy, shallow barrels, you will not be welcome and you genuinely should not be in the water.

Access & Facilities

Free parking on site and camping facilities nearby. Located on the southeast headland of the Tauro area. No water quality concerns noted, but the shallow reef is the primary hazard alongside potential mid-session crowd friction.

Nearby Alternatives

When Tauro is flat or too consequential, the Arguineguin area a short drive south offers several different breaks firing on big W swells with N to E winds. Maspalomas to the south picks up more swell and has more accessible options for different skill levels.
