A niche bodyboard wave on Gran Canaria's southern coast, Playa de las Mujeres is built around a punishing backwash that doubles as a launch ramp for inverted airs and 720s. It needs a solid S swell to turn on, with offshore N winds and mid tide only, so the window is narrow. At 2-6ft the wave delivers short, punchy bursts rather than long walls, and the radical bodyboard focus means shortboarders rarely find much here. Bottom: beach. Season: summer. Consistency: low. Come in summer when E or S windswells pulse through, but expect a crowd. Nudist beach culture is part of the scene at this spot, so first-timers should know what to expect before paddling out. The surrounding landscape, including the volcanic Montaña Arena backdrop, is worth the drive even when the surf is flat. Waves rarely exceed 50m in length, so sessions are quick.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Despite the limited conditions, this spot gets crowded whenever it fires, especially in summer when the rest of the south coast is flat. Bodyboarders dominate and have priority on the backwash section. Shortboarders and SUPs will find little room and fewer waves. Dawn patrol in summer is your best shot at a less competitive lineup.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available. No facilities on site, so bring water and sun protection. Maspalomas resort amenities are within reach for food and supplies. No notable water quality concerns. The beach is a well-known nudist beach.

Nearby Alternatives

When Playa de las Mujeres is flat or overcrowded, the Maspalomas area offers a few other beach options on bigger S or E swells. For a genuine change of pace, the better-quality reefs and points further north on Gran Canaria come alive on NW swells when the south coast is dormant.
