Gran Canaria's longest left-hander, Mosca Point reels down the point southeast of Las Palmas in NE to E swells, producing rides that can stretch well past 200m on a solid day. It needs a genuine NE to E groundswell in the 3-6ft range, cleaned up by W winds, to show its best face. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot: too high and sections close out, too low and the reef bites back. A wave this good and this rare pulls intermediates and above from across the island, so expect a competitive lineup when it fires. Bottom: point reef. Season: NE/E swell windows, primarily autumn through winter. Consistency: low. The low consistency is the honest filter here: it fires a handful of times per year at most, so if the swell is right and the wind is W, drop everything and go.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is increasing here, and the lineup can fill fast when the conditions align, given how rarely it fires. Weekends bring more bodies. Arrive at dawn, surf respectfully, and read the pecking order before paddling straight to the peak. Don't let the low consistency fool you into thinking you'll have it to yourself.

Access & Facilities

Access runs along the coast from Pozo Izquierdo. Parking is roadside and can get congested when conditions are pumping. No facilities on site, so bring water and fuel up before you leave town. Pozo Izquierda is a well-known windsurfing hub nearby, which means the road sees regular traffic.

Nearby Alternatives

When Mosca Point is flat or maxed out, the beachbreaks around Telde offer more consistent conditions and a wider swell window. Pozo Izquierdo itself can produce rideable waves on E windswells when nothing else is going.
