A flat submerged reef on the southern edge of Las Americas that transforms with a solid S or SW swell into long, wrapping right and left walls worth paddling out for. It needs more southerly angle than the main Las Americas breaks, which means it fires less often but draws the full crowd when it does. Best October through March, N to NE winds keep it clean, and it works across all tides. Intermediates are the target audience, though beginners do paddle out here on small days. Bottom: submerged rocky reef. Season: October to March. Consistency: medium. The rocks on the walkout are sharp and unforgiving, so neoprene booties are worth the awkwardness even in warm water, and the inside reef bites on close-outs. Water quality is generally acceptable but aging infrastructure means occasional sewage discharge after heavy rain.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Because it only fires in specific S swell conditions that leave many other local spots flat, when La Fitenia is on, everyone knows it and the water fills fast. Locals are competitive but not hostile, and basic etiquette goes a long way. Dawn sessions reduce the pressure considerably.

Access & Facilities

Parking is right at the break. The walkout over sharp lava rock is the main obstacle and the most common cause of cuts. A surf school operates here, and a surf shop is nearby. Water quality is generally fine but check after heavy rain due to reported sewage from aging infrastructure.

Nearby Alternatives

If La Fitenia is blown out or too small, the main Las Americas cluster has multiple reef peaks a short drive north that are more consistent in smaller swells. When a bigger NW swell is running, spots on the north and west coasts of Tenerife come alive and offer better alternatives.
