La Cicer sits at the southern end of Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, where an outer reef filters incoming Atlantic swell into a punchy, occasionally long beach break before it reforms on the shore. It works across all tides and picks up NW to SW groundswell reliably through autumn and winter, with 3-6ft the sweet spot before it gets too sectiony. The wave suits all skill levels in theory, but the reality is a dense lineup with bodyboarders dominating the steep inside sections, and drop-ins are common. Bottom: sand over reef. Season: Oct-Mar. Consistency: high through winter. Bring a board you don't mind dinging on a tight peak, and keep an eye on your belongings on the beach.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends here are genuinely chaotic. Bodyboarders pack the steep sections and are skilled at exploiting the closeout barrel. Expect drop-ins and competitive paddling. Localism is present but not organized. Dawn patrol on weekdays significantly reduces the pressure. Respect goes a long way.

Access & Facilities

Las Canteras is an urban beach in Las Palmas city center with direct bus access, plenty of parking nearby, and every amenity within walking distance: surf shops, cafes, showers, rentals. The paddle-out is straightforward. Watch your gear on the sand, theft from the beach has been reported repeatedly.

Nearby Alternatives

When La Cicer is closing out, the main Las Canteras beach further north offers a more sheltered, mellower wave better suited to longboards and beginners. On bigger NW swells, spots along the north coast of Gran Canaria handle size with more shape.
