An A-frame reef break that throws fast, powerful barrels from takeoff to channel, Ghost Town sits on the southwest coast of the Canary Islands and earns its regional classic reputation on the right swell. Optimal conditions are SW to NW groundswell in the 4-8ft range, offshore trades from the NE, and a mid to high tide to keep water over the sharp coral. Below 3ft it barely wakes up, above 8ft it becomes a serious paddle with heavy consequences. Experienced surfers only: the reef is shallow and unforgiving, the crowd fills in fast on weekends, and a late drop on the right-hander can send you directly over the falls onto coral. Bottom: reef (coral). Season: Oct-Mar primary. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bring a reliable leash, reef booties if your feet are soft, and consider weekday dawn patrol to avoid the weekend scramble.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays see a quiet lineup, often just a handful of regulars. Weekends change the picture entirely: the peak fills up, priority is contested, and patience matters. Ghost Town is not the place to learn right-of-way. Sit wide, watch a few sets before paddling to the peak, and keep interference to zero. Locals know this wave inside out and will notice if you don't.

Access & Facilities

Access is by car, the spot is reachable on foot from the parking area and easy enough to find without inside knowledge. Facilities are minimal in the immediate area, so carry water and check your equipment before you leave the car. The coral is sharp and cuts fast, so rubber on your feet is not overkill on low-tide sessions.

Nearby Alternatives

When Ghost Town is too small or the wind turns onshore, the southwest coast of the Canaries has reef and point options that come alive on different swell angles. Locals tend to rotate between spots depending on wind direction, so watching the forecast across the island chain pays off.
