A fast, punchy right-hand point peeling over boulders on the northwest tip of Gran Canaria, El Lloret is the kind of wave that rewards surfers who get there early. It needs overhead NW swell to properly fire, with southerly winds holding the face clean and low-to-mid tide giving the wave its best shape. At size, it delivers walls that run 200m or more down the boulder reef, with quick sections demanding committed rail surfing throughout. Intermediate surfers can handle it in moderate conditions, but when it hits 6ft and above the pace and power push it toward advanced territory. Crowds are a constant reality here, this is one of the more popular points on the island, and there are localism vibes to navigate. Bottom: boulder reef. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium, swell-dependent. Dawn patrol gives you the best shot at uncrowded waves before the crowd builds. A left pointbreak breaks across the channel and offers an alternative when the right gets too busy.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is openly one of Gran Canaria's most popular lineups. Crowds are the norm, and localism is a real factor. Respect the pecking order, don't snake sets, and keep your paddling efficient. Dawn patrol is the most reliable strategy for getting quality waves without the pressure. Mid-week sessions also tend to be less hectic.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available near the point. There are no facilities on site, so bring water and anything else you need. Water quality has improved significantly since the local fish factory closed, though rubbish among the boulders is still a regular sight. Watch footing on the rocks during entry and exit.

Nearby Alternatives

When El Lloret is maxed out or too crowded, the left pointbreak across the channel is worth checking. Las Palmas city beach and surrounding reef setups also offer options across a wide range of swell sizes and directions, keeping most Gran Canaria swells workable somewhere nearby.
