A long-walling right-hand reef peeling in front of the Metropolis building and wrapping into the bay at El Conquistador, Derecha del Cartel is one of the Canary Islands' most consistent and surfable rocky reefs. It works on NW and SW swells with SE or E winds keeping it clean, and performs best from waist-high up to double overhead. All tides are workable, though the tight take-off zone gets competitive fast. Intermediates and up will find long, peeling, shreddable walls over a lava reef that punishes mistakes. Bottom: rocky reef. Season: October to March. Consistency: high when swell is in the water. The sharp lava entry and exit demands care, water quality is fair with occasional sewage discharge reports, so check conditions after heavy rain before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is a regular contest venue and draws a high-standard crowd when it's firing. The lineup is competitive but manageable if you surf well and respect the rotation. Wait your turn, follow etiquette, and you'll get waves. Dawn patrol shifts the crowd pressure significantly. Attempting to snake regulars here is a poor idea.

Access & Facilities

Parking is available directly at the break. The walkout over sharp lava rocks requires solid reef footwear or careful stepping. Water quality is generally OK but aging infrastructure means sewage discharges have been reported. Check local surf reports after rain. Food and amenities are close given the urban setting near El Conquistador.

Nearby Alternatives

When Derecha del Cartel is too crowded or the swell angle isn't cooperating, the broader Puerto del Rosario and northern Fuerteventura coastline offers alternative reef and beach setups on the same swell windows. Corralejo to the north has multiple options that come alive on similar NW and SW pulses.
