A low-consistency beach break at the southern tip of Fuerteventura that punches well above its weight on the rare days it fires. Located near the Jandia lighthouse in Morro Jable, Cruz Roja needs a solid NW swell to wrap into the bay and deliver rights at low tide over a submerged reef and sandy bottom. Offshore winds run NW, with an optimal swell window from W through N. The wave is powerful for a beach break, capable of producing heavy sets above overhead when conditions align, which happens only a few times per season. On those days, the lineup draws experienced surfers from across the island, making it genuinely crowded and competitive. Bottom: submerged reef and sand. Season: autumn through winter. Consistency: low. Beginners should stay on the beach on the biggest days and wait for the smaller, cleaner days before or after the peak swell, when the wave becomes more manageable and far less dangerous.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Because it rarely works, the local crew is protective when it does. On a real swell, expect experienced surfers and bodyboarders competing hard for sets. Undertow is a real hazard in the curve of the bay on bigger days. The lifeguard actively keeps inexperienced swimmers out of the surf zone when the red flag is up. Read the situation honestly before paddling out.

Access & Facilities

Park near the Jandia lighthouse in Morro Jable and walk roughly 300m to the beach. A beach bar, toilets, showers, and a lifeguard post are all on site. Water quality is clean. On big days, use the sandbank to the right for a safer route back to the beach.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cruz Roja is flat, the north coast of Fuerteventura picks up NW swell more reliably, with multiple beach breaks and reef options depending on size. If the north is maxed out, the southern tip reefs in the Jandia area occasionally offer shelter and rideable conditions on smaller W and SE windswells.
