A short, punchy reef break on Lombok's west coast, Senggigi fires on SW to NW swells when most of the island's more famous spots are maxing out. Optimal conditions call for SW to NW swell from 3 to 8ft, offshore winds from the east, and a mid to high tide to keep the shallow coral honest. The right-hander is the main event: fast, hollow sections with a technical takeoff that punishes mistakes, especially at lower tide when the suck-up on the inside can end your session quickly. A left-hander breaks to the north side of the peak and runs cleaner and hollower but verges on a closeout in anything but ideal conditions. This is a wave for experienced surfers only. Bottom: coral reef. Season: dry season, May to October. Consistency: picks up regional SW swell reliably. Access requires walking through or around the Senggigi Beach Hotel property, so staying there simplifies the paddle-out considerably.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays can be nearly empty, weekends attract a handful of surfers. Reports from locals suggest the crowd has grown noticeably since the early 2000s, so don't expect to have it to yourself on a good swell day. Respect the local crew who know the reef well.

Access & Facilities

The break sits adjacent to Senggigi Beach Hotel on the island's west coast. Access on foot from the village requires skirting around the hotel's beach property. Staying at the hotel removes the access friction entirely. No formal surf facilities at the break itself. Senggigi town has accommodation, food, and basic amenities nearby. Watch the coral on the inside, especially at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

When Senggigi is too small or closing out, the boat trip south to Desert Point (Bangko Bangko) on Lombok's southwest tip is the region's heavy-hitter option for swell in the same SW window. Kuta Lombok to the south picks up more consistent swell on smaller days and offers beach break alternatives.
