Punchy, sometimes excellent beachbreak peaks bookended by Messanges to the north and Soustons to the south, sitting comfortably away from the Hossegor circus. The Port d'Albret river mouth splits the beach into two distinct zones: the Nord banks tend to be more defined and powerful at mid to high tide, while the stretch toward Soustons offers more room to pick your peak. NW to W swells from waist high to head-and-a-half are the sweet spot, with E to ESE offshores grooming the sandbars into clean walling lefts and rights. Weekdays are manageable, weekends pull a crowd, but there is enough sand to spread out. Bottom: sand. Season: September to February. Consistency: reliable autumn through winter. Watch the longshore drift near the river mouth, it will walk you down the beach faster than expected on bigger swells. Bottom: Sand. Season: Sep–Feb. Consistency: reliable autumn–winter with good summer days possible.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The local crew is established and proud of their stretch of coast, but the vibe is generally welcoming by Landes standards. Weekends in summer draw significant crowds. Autumn weekday dawns are the move if you want elbow room and the best swell of the year arriving simultaneously. Respect the lineup priority and drift-walk etiquette.

Access & Facilities

Large car parks off Ave des Dunes behind the north beach make access straightforward. Lifeguards patrol in summer, which helps manage the drift risk for less experienced swimmers and surfers. Camping Les Sablères is nearby for extended stays. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When Vieux Boucau's banks are blown out or flat, Messanges to the north offers similar beachbreak geometry with slightly different swell exposure. Hossegor and Capbreton to the south deliver more power and more hollow waves when size is up, though the crowds scale accordingly.
