A thinking surfer's reef on the open Atlantic shelf off Guéthary, Parlementia delivers long drawn-out bottom turns and swooping rail carves on a right-hand rock reef sitting several hundred yards offshore. NW swell is the ticket, with E winds keeping the face clean at this exposed position. The peak shifts around, morphing from what look like clean, makeable A-frames from the clifftop park into roguish, deceptive sets that will catch you inside if you lose focus. Size range runs from overhead to double overhead plus, with smaller swells needing a lower tide to push water over the reef. Intermediate to advanced surfers can handle the conditions, but the long paddle and Atlantic-scale energy demand real fitness. When winter swells connect properly, you will use more rail in one wave than in a full session at Hossegor. Bottom: Rock reef. Season: October through February, rideable year-round. Consistency: Moderate.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Summer sees a thick mixed crowd on the smaller, softer swells. When winter swell arrives, the lineup thins out and the standard rises sharply. Locals respect commitment. Show respect, paddle hard, and charge on the big days and you will generally be left alone. Free waves are not part of the deal.

Access & Facilities

Park at the west end of Guéthary town and walk down to the shore. The channel sits just south of the break and is easy to identify. Budget time and energy for the long paddle out to the outside peak. Water quality is clean. The village has cafes and basic supplies within easy reach.

Nearby Alternatives

When Parlementia is too big or the wind swings onshore, the beach breaks at Hossegor and Capbreton to the north offer more options across a wider swell and wind range. Lafitenia, a few kilometres south toward St-Jean-de-Luz, is a right-hand point that handles smaller NW swells cleanly and provides a lower-commitment paddle.
