One of the most consistent beachbreaks on the Seignosse coastline, Les Estagnots sits north of Hossegor and delivers quality sandbank peaks across a wide swell and size range. NW and W swells are optimal, with E to ESE winds keeping faces clean. Low tide produces long walling rights and lefts, while high tide shorebreak can turn hollow and punishing, particularly once the swell climbs past head-high. The rip and longshore drift intensify with size, so read the beach before paddling out. Bottom: sandbanks. Season: September through February for maximum swell and consistency. Consistency: high year-round. Handles more size than neighboring breaks to the north, working from knee-high through to double-overhead plus, but bigger days expose its drift and power. A solid intermediate can make the most of it on any tide, beginners should stick to smaller days and softer conditions.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Nearly always crowded. Easy car park access, proximity to Hossegor, and high consistency pull surfers of every level, which creates relentless drop-in pressure. Localism exists but is less charged than La Graviere or central Hossegor. Respect the peaks, read the rotation, and pick a less congested bank if you can find one. Dawn patrol gives you the best chance of space.

Access & Facilities

Large car park in the dunes, clearly signed from the Seignosse road network. Surf bar, restaurant, shops and a well-stocked surf shop on site. Campervans are no longer permitted to park overnight in Seignosse car parks. Water quality is generally clean but can dip after heavy rain. Rips are the main hazard.

Nearby Alternatives

When Les Estagnots is maxed out or overcrowded, La Graviere to the south handles bigger, more powerful swell but demands advanced ability. Bourdaines and Penon to the north work at smaller sizes and tend to be slightly less packed.
