A-frame beachbreak peaks north of La Graviere that punch well above their weight, sitting at the hinge point between Hossegor's mellow northern beaches and its legendary shorebreak tubes. W to NW swell is the key, with E or ESE winds keeping faces clean. Mid to high tide smooths out the steep beach angle and gives the banks room to wall properly before they back off. The wave handles a wide size range, from knee-high summer peelers up to 12ft plus when a solid Atlantic low rolls in, though it genuinely earns its reputation in the 4-8ft range when hollow, punchy barrels pitch close to shore. Intermediate and up will feel at home on the better days, advanced surfers can score near-empty tube sessions when crowds pack south to La Graviere for the main event. Bottom: sand. Season: October through February. Consistency: medium, sleeps through flat summer months. Limited roadside parking on soft sand and a long slatted path through the dunes filters out fair-weather visitors, which helps the crowd count. Watch for strong sideshore currents and heavy poundings when size builds.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends draw a crowd, but the lack of facilities, soft sand parking, and the gravitational pull of La Graviere keep numbers manageable compared to the main Hossegor peaks. Locals surf well and are tight-knit. Don't paddle straight to the best peak without reading the hierarchy first. Dawn patrol on weekdays during October and November is your best window for uncrowded barrels.

Access & Facilities

Approximately 100m north of the Rockfood restaurant in Hossegor. Free roadside parking but the sand is soft and vehicles get stuck. Use the marked dune paths only as the dune ecosystem is fragile and locals notice. No facilities on site. Water quality can be poor after rain, a known issue across the Hossegor stretch.

Nearby Alternatives

When this spot is too small or the banks are washing out, La Graviere to the south delivers the most powerful tubes in the area for advanced surfers ready to commit. In smaller, cleaner conditions, Bourdaines to the north offers a more forgiving beachbreak with similar W-NW swell exposure but a lower ceiling on size.
