A compact, groyne-flanked beach in central Capbreton that punches above its size on a solid W-NW swell, producing steep, hollow bowls that empty fast and demand quick reactions. Optimal from low to mid tide, it needs a genuine W to N swell to wake up, with E winds going offshore to clean the face. The right at the north groyne is the more consistent call, the left near the south groyne feeds into a rip channel that can make paddling back out a workout. It suits intermediates and above, but surf schools still show up, which pushes the already heavy weekend crowd past comfortable. Bottom: sand, groyne-influenced. Season: autumn-winter. Consistency: medium. Watch the high-tide backwash, it turns the lineup into a washing machine of close-outs and kills any chance of a real ride.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is the default Capbreton winter fallback, which means it draws everyone when other beaches are too big or too blown out. Weekends are ultra-crowded with bodyboarders, surf school groups, and experienced locals all competing for short rides. Dawn patrol or mid-week sessions in autumn are your best chance at breathing room. Respect the fact that locals surf this every day out of necessity, not enthusiasm.

Access & Facilities

Park at the central Capbreton beach carpark. Beachfront pedestrianisation has reduced town parking options, so arrive early or expect a walk. A lifeguard is on duty in season. The estuary nearby contributes to occasional water quality issues after rainfall, worth checking before paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Le Prevent is maxed out or too crowded, La Nord and the Hossegor beachbreaks to the north offer more open stretches of sand with better bank potential. On smaller days, the sheltered spots along the Capbreton port jetty can offer something rideable without the crowd pressure.
