Punchy A-frame beach peaks fire along this exposed stretch of the Landes coast, sitting just off the N10 roughly 40km north of Hossegor. NW to N swell at 3-8ft with an easterly offshore is the sweet spot, mid-to-low tide keeping the shorebreak manageable and the peaks hollow. The lineup suits confident intermediates and above: the shorebreak turns brutally heavy at high tide in size, and rips demand active management. Bottom: sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: high. At high tide in overhead-plus surf, the shorebreak becomes genuinely dangerous, save the energy reserves for the paddle back in and read the rip channels before committing to your entry.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Labenne runs a concentrated local crew because shifting sand means only a handful of peaks are working at any given time. Weekends can crowd up fast. Reports suggest the vibe is manageable if you carry yourself correctly: be respectful, make an effort with French, and read the hierarchy in the water. Nothing extreme, but don't paddle straight to the peak on your first session.

Access & Facilities

Reach it via the N10, check the wave from the car park before suiting up. Camping is available nearby. Walk the beach before paddling out to identify active rips, these are strong and have caused serious incidents including helicopter rescues in big swells. No major pollution concerns. Ondres, 3km south, offers an easy alternative check on the same swell.

Nearby Alternatives

Ondres is a quick drive south with nearly identical conditions and worth checking when Labenne's sandbanks are shut down. Hossegor is 40km south and offers higher-quality, more consistent options across multiple breaks when the swell is running.
